There are so many different things that occupy our time. It is almost impossible to stay on top of our daily activities, with work, groceries, dry-cleaning, special occasions to remember, and kids to attend to, significant others to be with, and the ever present reminders that we should be exercising more. With all these things that fill our plates, it is understandable that remaining abreast on current world issues, often isn’t a priority.
I too find it impossible to follow different threads in society that I believe are important. But after sometime, I realized that I was not even sharing with my closest friends, the things that were happening in our world that were important to me. I had begun to speak at high schools and community groups about issues such as HIV/AIDS, Art-activism, Genocide, and issues confronting Africa, and loved sharing with people- but I had failed to share with those who were closest to me. This is where the idea of OUT came from. This is a place where I can share about the threads that I do try to follow, and provide resources so others can learn about thing that are important to them. It took me a long time to make the connections that helped me learn about these things, so I am happy to share with you, so that your starting point is a little further along. |
