The Second Annual United Nations Association Film Festival
- Traveling Film Festival Los Angeles will be presented on Sunday, December
11th, at The Hollywood Entertainment Museum, 7021 Hollywood Blvd. in
Hollywood.
The festival commemorates the United Nations International Day for Human Rights. The theme of the festival is GIVING A VOICE TO HUMAN
RIGHTS AROUND THE WORLD. The festival is produced by the UNA-USA Pacific-Los
Angeles Chapter and Unity Foundation.
There will be afternoon and evening programs. The afternoon program begins
at 2:00 PM with the screening of the film – AFGHANISTAN UNVEILED – the story
of the first student journalists to visit the outlying areas of Afghanistan
to document women’s human rights abuses, immediately following the fall
of the Taliban regime. At 3:00 PM there will be a special HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
program focused on HUMAN TRAFFICKING. At 4:00 PM the film – TALK MOGADISHU -
MEDIA UNDER FIRE will be screened, The film tells the story of the people who established the first television and radio stations in Mogadishu,
Somalia, to give people a voice concerning their human rights issues,
following the civil war in that country. Tickets are $10.00 for the
afternoon program.
The evening program begins at 5:30 PM with a Reception and Guided Tours of
The Hollywood Entertainment Museum. At 6:30 PM the special HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
program focused on HUMAN TRAFFICKING will again be presented, featuring a
film presentation and a proclamation from the Mayor of Los Angeles, the city
at the forefront of addressing this vitally important human rights issue. At
7:00 PM the film KPFA ON THE AIR will be screened. This documentary tells
the story of the founding of the first alternative radio station in the
United States, leading to the creation of the Pacifica Network and its long
history of giving a voice to human rights issues around the world. At 8:00
PM there will be a Panel Discussion with human rights leaders and media
representatives. Tickets are $20.00 for the evening program.
